WVSPS Eastern Panhandle Chapter Presentation

The Eastern Panhandle Chapter of WVSPS will be holding a presentation on November 10, 2015 at the Purple Iris. This presentation is sponsored by the Civil Engineers ASCE and is titled, "Cellular Concrete as a Lightweight Fill Material," presented by Nico Sutmoller from Advanced Engineered Foam Solutions.

This presentation qualifies for one (1) PDH and is an introduction to Cellular Concrete and advanced engineered foam technology. Beginning with a brief history of the technology, this presentation will answer the basic questions of cellular concrete. This presentation will also showcase project histories to relate the applications to real world geotechnical challenges. Finally, this presentation will expose the audience to emerging engineered foam technologies and the exciting new applications these products bring to an already versatile product line, as well highlighting how traditional cellular concrete technology is advancing to meet challenging project parameters.

Four learning objectives for attendees:
1. Discuss the history, definition, and properties of cellular concrete
2. Review mix design requirements and testing procedures
3. Explore typical applications and highlight some case studies
4. Introduce emerging technology, and how traditional cellular concrete technology is advancing to meet challenging project parameters

The cost of this presentation is $25. It will be held at the Purple Iris in Martinsburg, WV.

Free seminar at WV Expo tomorrow by Don Teter!

Come see Don Teter present his seminar "The Fairfax Stone and Deakins Line: How West Virginia Put a Whuppin' on Maryland; And a Few Other Tales of Inter State Floggings" tomorrow from 9am - 11am at the WV Expo -- This seminar is FREE.

A brief description:
Boundary disputes between states can be as intense as those between individuals, and the disputes are often the result of a new, “better” survey of an old line. A U.S. Supreme Court case is the subject of Don’s tale of The Fairfax Stone and Deakins Line. The discussion will include Supreme Court decisions in a few other state boundary disputes, and their relevance to everyday boundary surveying.
